Sizifo is an alternative spelling of the name Sisyphus as written in Esperanto. According to Greek mythology, Sisyphus was the king of Corinth who was punished by the gods by being forced to roll a large rock up a hill. The rock would fall down every time it neared the top, and Sisyphus would have to repeat the same task over and over endlessly.
In his 1942 essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Albert Camus saw Sisyphus as personifying the absurdity of human life, but Camus concluded, "One must imagine Sisyphus happy" as "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart." Although I have some doubts about Camus's conclusion, I like his eloquent metaphor of comparing the pointless repetitive actions of Sisyphus with the meaninglessness of everything we do in life.
